Welp, that has to be one of the most painful to watch games Arsenal has played in this season. I’d say it was the 3rd worst behind the Liverpool and Rennes away games. Arsenal was so terrible going forward that their attack resembled an army of 15-year-olds trying to fight ISIS, armed with the “fat clouds” from their Juul pods. Their defense wasn’t much better. Sokratis and Leno looked like the only two players that cared out there yesterday, kudos to them because the scoreline would have been much worse without them playing.
I’m not going to go into much detail about the match itself, because reliving that game will make my head hurt. Or much worse, throw inanimate objects in rage:
This performance highlights a massive problem that Arsenal Football Club can’t seem to overcome this season. Winning games away from home. We are the only club in the league to not keep a clean sheet this season, and we have fewer points from away games than Wolves, Crystal Palace, Leicester, and Watford.
This is horrific stuff from a club who has top-four ambitions and desire to play in the Champions League next season. My hot take is that this is a festering problem, lingering around from the Arsene Wenger days. It sure is a worry that Emery hasn’t sorted it out yet. Don’t get me wrong, the way he has turned the Emirates into a fortress is awesome. I feel like Wenger never fully achieved that in the 12 years he had managing the team at the Emirates. This away from issue could be what totally undoes all the progress Emery has made so far with Arsenal. Hopefully, we can grind out some successful results against Watford, Wolves, Leicester, and Burnley and remain in the top-4. A cheeky Europa League trophy would make Emery’s first season at the club a real success, and a great way to send off soon-to-be club legend Aaron Ramsey.
