Well looks like John is on to the next one and Jay-Z wouldn’t have it any other way. After a dismal season, Case Keenum looks to have lost the lust of John Elway and being the patient man that he is (sarcasm, look it up) decided to make moves into another direction for the Denver Broncos.
In a bold move that many have criticized Elway for, a trade agreement has been made, in principle, to send Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos for what looks to be a 3rd-4th round pick. Social media hasn’t been too kind to Elway for the move, in absorbing a bloated contract for a player that most people consider more flaccid than Flacco. Say what you will about the 34 year old QB, if anyone has any sort of understanding of football is, it’s a clear upgrade over Case Keenum, regardless of how many people want to bring up his season in Minnesota. Elways’ move has people thinking it was out of desperation, especially since Denver has now experienced it’s first back-to-back losing seasons since 1972 and he’s the face of it all, but the undeniable fact is that Elway had clear pressure to find a better QB and didn’t trust the upcoming draft class and/or his ability to actually evaluate a young QB. Flacco isn’t what he used to be, but after the Trevor Siemian’s, Brock Osweiler’s, and Case Keenum’s it’s arguably the biggest upgrade at the position for Denver since the 9 TD to 17 INT Peyton Manning led the Broncos to a Superbowl win in 2015. See what I did there? Denver hasn’t had solid production from the QB position in over 5 years and Flacco represents that beacon of hope for Elway.
Now in-lies the next question, what does Denver do with Keenum? It’s been reported that they plan to shop him, but with $7 million guaranteed and a possibility of no one wanting to pay the journeymen QB $18 Million, Denver could be forced to eat $10 million in dead cap if they want to cut him (yikes). If they trade/release him does Elway still swing for the fences for a QB in the draft? Common logic would think probably not in the first round, but Elway has shown his unpredictability many times before so everything is still on the table even after the Flacco acquisition. Welcome to Denver Flacco, will you accept this rose until the treacherous O-line gets you wrecked for the season?
